Process Calibration Option
Each model is available with the Process Calibrator (PC) option, combining the powerful features of a fully functional HART documenting process calibrator with a reference-grade dry well.
This option provides the ability to measure a reference PRT (with virtually any connection type) and includes two device-under-test channels capable of measuring mA, voltage, switch, RTD, or thermocouple inputs.
In addition to these measurement functions, the calibrator offers full documenting capabilities, allowing the creation of calibration tasks, storage of as-found and as-left results, and communication with HART-smart transmitters. The onboard full HART communicator enables users to read, configure, and calibrate HART transmitters directly.
The snapshot feature allows instant capture of all displayed information with a single button press. This optional add-on also supports data logging for all channels through an auto-step function. When utilizing a reference PRT, the system can be configured to control the dry well setpoint using either the internal sensor or the external reference PRT.
Self-Calibration
Using an external reference probe as a standard is the most accurate way to perform temperature calibration. However, certain applications may not require or allow it. In these cases, using the internal control sensor can be more convenient.
Traditionally, internal control sensors have a wider accuracy tolerance due to long-term drift. To address this, a self-calibration feature is integrated, allowing an automated calibration of the internal control sensor using the external reference.
With only a few selections, the calibration process runs automatically, producing a fresh, traceable calibration of the control sensor. This improves accuracy and eliminates the need to account for long-term drift when using the internal sensor as the reference.
Automation Features
Historically, dry wells have served primarily as stable heat sources. The Additel Reference Dry Wells elevate functionality with advanced automation, enabling use as a high-stability heat source, triple point of water (TPW) maintenance apparatus, and annealing furnace.
When combined with the ADT878-TPW-KIT, the ADT878-160 model can automatically realize and maintain a triple point of water cell. Traditional TPW realization requires time and expertise, but Additel’s automation simplifies the process. Simply insert the cell and PRT, initiate the procedure, and the firmware will alert when the cell is super-cooled. After a brief shake, the triple point can be maintained in the reference well—ideal for checking PRT drift.
For additional details, refer to the ADT878-TPW-KIT data sheet.
The 700 °C Reference Dry Well includes an automatic annealing feature for PRTs. Preconfigured annealing procedures define temperature, annealing duration, and cool-down rate, with flexibility for creating custom procedures as needed.
The Additel 878 Reference Dry Well Calibrator takes temperature calibration to the next level. Designed for precision and reliability, this series showcases Additel’s dedication to continuous improvement, quality, and time-saving innovation. Three models are available, covering a temperature range from -40 °C to 700 °C, ensuring an ideal fit for any calibration requirement.
The Process Calibrator option enhances functionality with an external reference input, dual-channel readout for units under test, and comprehensive features for measuring temperature sensors, calibrating thermocouples, self-calibrating the reference well, and configuring HART transmitters.
Each unit includes a large touchscreen display, dual-zone temperature control, and the exceptional performance expected from Additel’s industry-leading design. The ADT878 series represents a new benchmark in reference dry well calibration.
